Brandy

Meet my newest foster pup, Brandy! Brandy is an apricot toy poodle (looks like) of about 5 years old. She is a total sweetie! She is a snuggly, well behaved girl who just wants to be your little (very little - she's about the size of a medium cat) shadow. She's an excellent companion and would even be a good apartment dog. She's gentle and gets along well with cats, dogs, and kids. She's fully vetted but is heart worm positive, a treatable condition. Adoption fee is $250 and families must be prepared to take her with them if they leave Japan. ブランディーちゃん、里親募集中です！ブランディーは「多分」アプリコット・トイ・プードルです。推定5歳位。本当にいい子です！人と一緒にいるのが大好きで、おとなしく、まるでいつも一緒の小さな「影」のよう。サイズも小さく、中位の猫サイズです。最高のパートナーで、アパートでも大丈夫なサイズです。

性格もおとなしく、他の犬、猫、子供とも仲良く出来ます。避妊、予防注射などは全て済ませてありますが、フィラリアは＋です。フィラリアは治療で治ります。

Layla

Layla has been adopted!

Layla is a 1 to 1.5 year old mix breed (maybe a Ryukyu-ken mix) dog weighing 35 pounds. Layla is a really happy dog and loves people and other dogs. She is house-trained, crate trained, and doing well with leash training and learning commands. She is not too keen about the car but once she is in, they enjoys the ride. She gets along great with the resident dog, the resident cat and with children. She will make a wonderful family member. Layla is fully vetted, heart worm negative, up-to-date on monthly preventatives and ready to go to her new home. Adoption fee is $250. Dakota

Today I coordinated an adoption for Dakota. Dakota is a beautiful Ryukyu-ken mix from Okinawa, pulled from the Ozato animal control center by Doggies Inc. He's estimated to be about a year and a half old. I met up with his foster mom, Autumn, and visited with the family that was interested in him.

Dakota is a very sweet and good natured dog, and he and the family hit it off quickly! He'll be going home this week!

Jaxon

I helped to coordinate Jaxon's adoption this week. Jaxon is a nine month old guy who was born from a dog rescued by Doggies Inc. from the Ozato animal control center in Okinawa. At the time she was rescued, she was heavily pregnant and it was too late to spay her, so Jaxon and his siblings were born.

Jaxon was fostered by Autumn and found his forever home this week! Congratulations, cutie. 

Skippy -> Cooky

Skippy (now Cooky) has been adopted by a wonderful family in Tokyo. He will live there with his mom, dad, and two cat siblings.

彼は沖縄の保護センターに5/7に保護され、沖縄のボランティア団体（Doggies Inc.）に命を救われ(あと一日遅れると大変な事になっていたようです・・・)、成田、町田と住まいを替えて昨晩我が家の一員になりました。

この施設からCooky君は来ました。

沖縄の米軍関連施設から保護され、ICチップ/USがットされているようです。
本土に来てから3ヶ月強で、日本語通じるのか心配ですが、苦労してきただけあって、けなげで、愛嬌が大変良いCookyくんです。
先輩猫とも早々に仲良くなってほっとしています。

ゴルフ以外で早起きして出かけた事がなかった私が、毎朝6時過ぎと夕刻に
善福寺池をくるくる回っています・・・
綾小路きみまろとはちと違いますが『中高年、犬の散歩で、ダイエット!』

Skippy

Skippy is a 3-4 year old male Maltese (mix?). He was pulled from a high-kill animal control facility in Okinawa by Doggies Inc. and is now being fostered in the Tokyo area. He is neutered, has had his rabies and combo vaccines, is heartworm negative, has had a fecal check (negative), and has received his first dose of Heartgard and Frontline. He is extremely friendly and would like nothing better than to crawl into your lap and cover you in kisses. He is 5~6 kg. and is very good on a leash. He is pet sheet trained but may be able to be weaned off them if he can be let out every several hours, as he does have a hard time holding it for long periods of time. 去勢手術、ノミ・混合ワクチンは既に終えており、フィラリアも問題ありません（フィラリアとノミの薬は１回分終えています）。
スキッピーはと～ってもフレンドリーで、ひざの上に乗ることが大好き。たくさんキスしてくれますよ（笑）。体重は５～６kgで散歩もお手のものです。２～３時間であれば、家でおとなしくしてますが、長時間ひとりぼっちでいるのは辛いかな？と思います。

Libby

 Update: Libby has been adopted!

Libby is a 2-3 year old young lady rescued from a high-kill animal control center in Okinawa by the group Doggies Inc. Libby is probably a Silky Terrier or possibly a Silky/Yorkie mix. She is about 8-10 pounds. She is really sweet and affectionate and loves to snuggle up in a lap or in your arms. Though she's passing shy at first, she quickly warms up and loves her walks and shadowing you around the house. She is gentle and quiet and crate trained. Libby is filaria positive, which means she has heartworms. It is probably a light case as she shows no outward signs of distress (like respiratory difficulty) and is currently taking medication to slowly eradicate them. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Libby gets along with people, dogs, and cats, and she really loves love.

Solex

 Update: SOLEX has been adopted by a wonderful family!

Solex is a 2-3 year old Shih Tzu who was pulled from a high-kill pound in Okinawa by the rescue group Doggies Inc. He is a very friendly and sociable boy who gets along with other dogs and kids. He is great on a lead and is puppy-pad trained. Solex has short legs so he has a hard time jumping on your furniture! He has been neutered and vaccinated (8 way combo shot, rabies) and has received his first dose of Frontline and Heartgard. Solex wants to snuggle you and sit on your lap. You know you (or someone you know) wants to adopt an adorable Muppet-pup! He is being fostered at my place in Tokyo and is looking to meet his future family. Adoption fee is 14,000 yen. Juno

Juno was my first foster dog through Doggies Inc., the organization down in Okinawa for which I transported Miller/Bowie to the U.S. on that ill-fated trip back in September (He's so happy now! He has his own Facebook profile.).

Juno was pretty scruffy when he was brought in. He had obviously been very neglected or on the street a long time. Long matted hair, sores on his skin where the mats had gotten really bad.

After a stint down in Oki with no takers, he came up to Tokyo to try to find a home here.

Within a short period, we had made contact with an adopter who adopted cats from JCN, whose father was interested in getting a dog after losing his cherished Yorkie a year or two ago.

Mr. A had suffered from some depression, but after Juno came, he felt much better having a companion. They take care of each other.

Miller Becomes Bowie

On my way to the U.S. for a visit with the fam-and-friends, I had the honor of escorting this little fella to his new and forever home. Miller, a Cavalier King Charles (CKC), was down in the Ozato pound on the gas line in Okinawa when Doggies Inc. uploaded his pic to their site. A CKC lover noticed him and alerted a CKC fan club, which quickly mobilized to raise money to get him pulled from the center, vetted, fostered, and transported to the west coast for rehoming. All the fine details on the Japan side were carried out by Doggies. When they posted that they were looking for transport, I immediately vounteered as I was planning to visit the States in a few weeks. Since his final destination was Seattle and mine was Portland, it was a fairly convenient arrangement and I called the airline (Delta) to book his passage. Upon arrival at the airport, I met the lovely Lisa who had been fostering Miller until his departure. She helped me get him checked in and paid his transport fee. Unfortunately, there was a snafu after I got to the boarding gate. Despite making my reservation for Miller weeks in advance, confirming it a few days in advance, and breezing through the check in process, it was discovered when trying to load Miller onto the plane that he was not actually allowed on the plane. A gate agent called me shortly before boarding to tell me we would not be allowed on the flight. After some scrambling and confusion, we were rerouted through Minneapolis. The agent who had been dealing with my case gave me the gate number and told me to run, as boarding was in process. Nobody told me why we had been ejected. Upon finally reaching Minneapolis, I encountered another roadblock when I couldn't find Miller in the baggage area. I asked a baggage clerk - he had no idea. Asked a Delta rep hanging around the area - she had no idea. Asked another baggage handler - no clue. Finally one of the immigration agents went to look for him and brought him out to me, then escorted me to the front of the line. I have to say that the immigration person was exceedingly kind. Unfortunately, after all the rigamarole, there was not enough time to take Miller out of the airport, as it would have involved going out of security and then having to go through the whole process again to get back in. I had less than an hour to make my connection at this point. There is nowhere at MSP to take a dog to relieve himself during transit. Poor Miller had to endure another leg of the journey without leaving his crate. We had originally expected that he would be in the crate for 10-12 hours, as the flight from NRT to PDX is 9 hours. By the time we reached PDX, he had been enclosed for more than 20 hours. But reach Portland we finally did, where his new mama was waiting. And his new siblings. Miller's name is now Bowie, and he lives in Seattle. Yay Bowie! Here's a video made by someone in the CKC group that helped raise money and spread the word.
